Day 11 The Journey Home (stopover in Bloomington)

8/10/2011

Saturday Mike took me and my mom to the antique car show being held at the David Davis mansion in Bloomington. We showed up in his 1938 Buick (I’ll expect a call if I get the year of the car wrong). It was a treat for two reasons. First, I got to hang out with all the fellas from the car club and see all their antique cars. Second, I got to take in a little piece of history. David Davis is the person responsible for nominating Abraham Lincoln for President. On the grounds, hosts and hostesses were dressed in garb from the early ninteen hundreds. I don’t know how the ladies handled the heat back then because those dresses had them covered from head to toe. I guess global warming hadn’t set in yet. Although I’m sure it was still hot as hades in the summer.

I met one guy there that built an electric car that can get over two hundred miles on a gallon of gas and can go zero to sixty in six seconds. His name is Kevin Smith but not the director. He believes that one person can change the world. I love that attitude.

We didn’t linger too long. I did get to give one book to Dave’s grandson Cameron before I left though. It gave me the sense that I’m still completing my mission. After that is was back to the house to catch up on some of my own reading. Oh yes, more sleep too. I could grow accustomed to this sleep thing.
