It is important to know when to take a break

The guys at the factory

Yesterday I decided I needed to train despite an ache in my foot. I took on thirty one miles and a pool workout. It was a mistake. The ache in my foot was more tender today. There are no excuses and there is no room for failure. I am a firm believer that the mind can conquer any pain in the body but I was not willing to push through the pain on this day, not with eighteen days to go. So I took a day off. I’ve got to look at the big picture and make sure I am healthy enough to complete the task at hand. I will rest for a couple more days and I will be ready to go on February tenth. It is the only option.

The self imposed rest has been nice. I was able to sleep a little extra, read a few more minutes, and tie up a few loose ends before I take off. The added benefit was that I was able to enjoy an evening in the jacuzzi. It was just me and my thoughts and a bubbling hot tub until three lovely ladies came to enjoy the water and the evening. It was nice for me to have some company and a little light conversation. Perhaps I should have asked for a number but I’ve got eighteen days until I am on the road. Once I am out there who knows which direction life will take me.

Despite the day being a bust in terms of training, I must say I recieved positive news from two of the charities for which I am raising funds. Living water international has helped secure lodging for me in several of the cities on my route and Making Miracles 4 Cystic Fibrosis has added me on their website. As I always believed, once this journey is underway, things will come together from many unforseen directions. We must have a littel faith. Everything will work out if you do everything in your power to achieve something good.
