I’m sure Sheldon Adleson doesn’t own the Sands in Grants. If he does then the recession is worse than I thought. The folks there were nice but, there were a few areas which they could have improved on. The first room they put me in had an open packet of shampoo lingering in the shower. I was willing to overlook the shampoo packet but one thing I love is soaking in a hot tub after a tough day. The tub didn’t drain properly. The manager ended up exchanging our room. The bathtub in the new room worked but now the toilet needed attention. I had to lift the lid and manually pull the chain. I was too tired to complain.
I woke up to dark clouds and falling snowflakes. This morning’s breakfast menu included powdered donuts and powdered donuts. They also had a little bit of juice. I couldn’t believe they advertised a complimentary breakfast. It seemed like it would be a dreary day. The first order of business was to put gas in the car. At the gas station, I started shooting my daily video diary when I met Emerson. He was a distinguished Native American man with three grown daughters. He served in Vietnam and he is now a silversmith. He pulled me aside to show me his handywork. After learning more about this man and some of the things he lived through, he gave me a charm for good luck. It was a silver piece he crafted. I gave him a book and some flyers. The day was turning in my favor.
I had my mom keep the charm in the car for good luck but it seemed to take immediate effect. I caught a tailwind and the dark clouds seemed to disappear. Mile after mile passed quickly. I felt so good, I didn’t even want to stop to take some scenic photographs. Luckily my mom had her video camera and she got some of the scenery I wished to capture. Not having had quite the nutritious breakfast, I found myself famished after 23 miles. I was at the days endpoint that my copilots Nick and my mom plotted out; The Dancing Eagle Casino. I inhaled a veggie burrito and hydrated thoroughly. The day was still early and I wasn’t ready to call it so, I decided to run six more miles to Laguna. Fourty more miles to Albuquerque from this point. Yee Haw!!!
