The past week seemed to pass so slowly. Lots of waiting around in hospitals, long drives in cars, and paperwork did it’s best to wear me down. It was torture. I felt like I was growing lazier by the day. But, all things come to pass and I found myself taking care of the last bit of busywork in Sprinfield. I took the blue Kia van back to the rental company at the airport and called a cab to drop me off at Marshfield. The plan was to start running the next morning.
Passing the exact location of the accident was wierd. There were still little traces of the accident that occured. That, coupled with the fact that I couldn’t find an hotel to accomodate me left me with one option. You guessed it. Run! Against my better judgement I took off into the unknown with my belongings at five PM. The sun stayed out for a while and provided good running weather. But eventually, the moon took over. It was full and it provided enough light for me to see the road. Now I’d like to consider myself pretty brave and fearless but, my mind couldn’t help but think of yetis and werewolves. I mean the trees are dense and the shadows are kinda creepy. You never know what could be lurking. Still, the night run felt fantastic.
The layoff left me plenty rusty. I felt my muscles working. Although, it could be due to the fact that I was pushing seventy pounds of gear. Or, it could be the endless rolling hills. I eventually ended up at the Happy Trails RV and campground. I didn’t want to push too hard and run an extra couple miles into town. I set up camp and discovered that my lighter sleeping bag was not as warm as I thought and that the night air of the Missouri springtime was not as warm. At least I’m back on the road. It sure is nice.
