Woke up from a great sleep and called my mom to wish her a happy birthday. I always thought we would be celebrating her birthday together on the road. Unfortunately it didn’t get to happen this year. After chatting for a good portion of the morning, I was ready to take off. I had a plan sketched out in my head but I was winging it partly as well. I was either going to run twenty-two miles or thrity-one.
When I stepped outside and felt the humidity I wanted to run right back into the room and turn the AC on. But I pushed forward as always. The day seemed to pass pretty quickly. I ran from the bottom of one bridge to another. I had to take shade as often as possible because it was a scorcher. It wouldn’t have been so bad had there been more trees but I’m surrounded by miles and miles of cornfields in this state. Trees are so awesome! Yesterday when it was raining, they protected me from the elements. Today the few spots that had them, they gave me shade. We need more of them.
I met yet another furry friend on the road. Her name was Sally and she had a salt and pepper colored coat. She insisted on being my running buddy. Her neighbor Patsy didn’t want her to wander off too far so she came out to get her. Patsy had to come get Sally several times. It was cute. The final time I picked Sally up in my sweaty arms and carried her back. It was nice having company but it was time for Sally to go home.
I reached Farmersville around three and I didn’t know what to do with myself. I didn’t want to keep going in the sun but my body didn’t want to stop. I decided to grab a bite and wait for the weather to cool a bit. It let some time pass and with it passed my enthusiasm. I settled on the only motel in town and they gave me a good rate.
