Day 72 & 73 Brackettville to Uvalde 49 Miles

IMG_4490Over the past few days, the landscape continued to evolve as did the wildlife. I caught a crew of antelope grazing. They had strong bodies like stallions and they ran very fast. I tried my best to get a shot of them with my camera but when I pulled my phone out of the case, they had already taken cover behind some trees in the distance. I could see their antlers but in the photograph the horns just blended in with the vegetation. These creatures reminded me of a book that was awaiting my approval. From that moment on, my body was on the road but my mind was on the Papa Didos Universe.

20141111_125945The first children’s book I put out was called “The Tenth Floor”. It has always held a special place in my heart but as of recently, the relevance of what I wrote seeped into this adventure. As a creative person, I have always wondered if one day I’d run out of ideas. The truth is, there have been dry spells over the years but the imagination could always be given a jump start. I employed many techniques to set my mind in motion. I searched for thrills and excitement in books and in life. After every conquest my appetite grew. Kids often ask where do I get my inspiration. I always tell them, inspiration is everywhere, all you need to do is look around. After a while it is even recognizable in dreams.

IMG_4530Many friends have joined me on this new adventure. I’m always amazed at the support we have received. Places like the Pizza Hut and Hampton Inn in Uvalde have kept the wheels in motion on this journey. Our cause has been relayed from one city to the next. The quest to make an impact on kids at home and abroad hasn’t been an easy task. Even with the support we have received, struggles continue. But, quitting isn’t in our lexicon and we know there is a long road ahead. Just like I tell the kids, I dream big. Our books are on several continents and in the hands of thousands of kids. Every day we are out on the road we give all we have. Sometimes we give more than that. The journey is still young and there is energy in the reserve. I can’t control the amount of support we receive. I can’t force anyone to donate to something that isn’t dear to their heart. What I can do is continue stepping and let my actions speak on my behalf. We will continue to send books to kids in underdeveloped countries. We will continue to give books to kids that need them in our own country. We will continue on this magical journey. IMG_4531
