Patterns of long wavy lines were scribbled on the desolate beaches. I spotted very few people around my running environment. They were missing out on the glorious rays beaming from above. Without a cloud in sight, the day was perfect for running off a holiday meal. As my feet made their way through the state of Mississippi, I noticed the amount of litter on the roadside diminished exponentially. The amount of speeding drivers however, had increased.
After eight miles, I reached yet another long bridge. A wall protected a lane made for bicyclists and runners. I stayed relatively dry on the two miles stretch over calm water. It surprised me that I wasn’t dripping in sweat like I would have been one state ago; especially since I was right next to the water. I didn’t question my fortune. I just ran with it. My day was spent enjoying the grand beauty of the coast. The pristine beaches and majestic homes kept the scenery interesting. As I got closer to Gulfport I noticed trees in the ground, lining a center divider, had been carved into statues.
No obstacles appeared on this day. Crystal and I made it safely to the Residence Inn by the Gulfport airport. We were happy to stay at another Residence Inn because they are all fashioned like a cozy apartment. The furnishings were warm and inviting and the bed was large with many pillows. The perfect end to the day was a hot soak and a cup of sweet cantaloupe juice. I looked forward the short distance of the following day’s mileage. I could see the next day’s destination from where I ended my day in Gulfport.
