As with any endeavor, commitment can take you far. It is necessary to know when to call it quits and when to keep pushing forward. Priorities aren’t right or wrong, they are just what a person values. Every time the thought of stopping the journey entered my mind, I gathered my focus and figured out my priorities. The dark moments and obstacles consumed me at the time, but with a little patience and perseverance, the adventure propelled me forward.
The Hampton Inn by the Sarasota airport had a French influenced décor. The earth and green colors kept me calm. Steam rose from the breakfast items fresh from the kitchen. I chose to start off with yogurt and fruit though. Of course I continued to eat and found that I took in two muffins, two bowls of oatmeal, and a waffle with whipped cream and chocolate. I knew I didn’t need extra fuel for the light day ahead but I still had a huge appetite.
While the sun lit my face for the cameras of Suncoast News Network, the wind kept me cold. I had made it a point to wear the shirt of Mamma Chia because they had supported me with their invigorating beverages from the onset of this journey. I only wish they had other items I could wear. I wrapped the interview with Melissa Warren around noon but I stayed at the hotel few minutes talking with the friendly staff.
The 41/Tamiani Way was straightforward. I ran past an area that looked like Beverly Hills and southern California. Tall luxury buildings scratched the skyline and artistic sculptures were on every block. I also saw the name Ringling everywhere. I discovered that the Ringling Bros. mansion was in the area. The day was spent running past typical city stuff. Malls, retailers, and food places were abundant. I was pleased when I realized I was approaching Bentley’s Boutique Hotel. The outside looked very much like a boutique with its straight lines. I read the names on the doors in the hallway to my room. Every room had the name of a place in England. I spotted a pool with a wooden deck and tiki bar as well as a nightclub next to a restaurant. It felt a tiny bit like a place on Sunset Blvd in LA.
That evening I spent my time chatting with Crystal and my mom. We felt that our undertaking was gaining some momentum. Support seemed to be coming in various forms. Without a doubt I was glad I didn’t throw in the towel on the dark days. I had often heard that most people give up just when they are about to realize their goals.
