I spent the morning hitting the keys of my computer. The clicking sound hypnotized me and I got lost in my world. I had fallen behind on my updates from the road. It was hard to pinpoint how I had slipped behind. When did I miss a day? I thought I had remained diligent over the course of seven months. No matter, at least I had hand written copies to transcribe.
After a while beads of sweat began to form on my forehead. I knew it was time to get out of the trailer. I rubbed my eyes to make sure the clock read noon. Of course the rumbling from my stomach from my stomach confirmed it was past noon. At that moment Crystal informed me that the Manager from the Applebee’s in Massaponax sounded excited to have us for a meal.
Before ordering I hydrated with a mango lemonade. My body appreciated the sugar when I was on the road. I enjoyed pairing the drink with a hot bowl of macaroni and cheese. The simple dish was just what I needed. As I took small bites of twisted macaroni tubes I spotted a new item on their desert menu. Since I had kept my main dish simple I chose to be adventurous with my desert. The churro smores were a cinnamon pastry which I dipped in chocolate topped with toasted marshmallows. I figured it was more fuel for my run.
As I savored the sweets, Angelica came by and told us that the Papa Didos book we gave to the restaurant would be framed and hung on the wall. That put a smile on my face. Great food and great service was an excellent start to the day’s adventure.
Fredricksburg was only a few miles away. I spotted students floating around the college area while families frolicked in a huge park. Crystal had stopped at the park to tell me there was a flood warning but that it would hit until the afternoon. Two hours of good weather remained. I looked up and saw swaying trees and rolling clouds. The wind was pushing them towards my direction. At that moment I was still dry and had plenty of energy.
I pushed my body up hills, over rivers, and finally past a row of traffic. The rain began to drizzle as I approached Stafford. When I reached the town Crystal had already arranged a shower at the Stafford Sport and Health Club. I carried a few toiletries into the pristine building. The massive facility had rows and rows of treadmills. I washed off debris which had stuck to my body and I shaved off all my hair. When I stepped out the gym the drizzle had become a hard rain and the possibility of a flood seemed even more real. I looked at our mobile beast and felt a flood of gratitude for our trailer. I was ready for a night of warm shelter.
