My eyes were sealed shut and my limbs were limp like noodles. A roaring lion couldn’t have scared my comatose body to life. It took every ounce of strength to will myself out of my state of slumber. Were the miles beginning to catch up with me? Or was my footwear the culprit? Perhaps it was a little of both. I stepped out of bed as if there were needles under my feet. It was a ritual that I practiced every morning. I would iron out every kink in the body before making myself take more steps.
Crystal had become accustomed to organizing the trailer anytime we stopped at a campground. She probably didn’t realize we had been at a campground just about every day in recent memory. The chores routinely cut into my start times but having a clean trailer did give me peace of mind.
The lack of options for my route put a smile on my face. I was tired of taking wrong turns. I just wanted to be set in motion like a wind up doll. Having to check my map often just took the wind out of my sails. My feet smiled and went to work like an employee that just received a raise. Despite the many uphill climbs, I could let my body stay in motion. There were no obstacles or distractions. Both sides of the road provided ample running room and the emerald colored plants kept my mood upbeat. Although there were a few spores floating in the air, I was not attacked by pollen. The absence of sneezing kept me running like a well-oiled machine.
My destination for the day was the college town of Keene. On the way I didn’t pass much civilization. The wildlife kept me company throughout the chilly day. It was a day that passed just as it started. It must have been because of my late start. The good news was that a lovely couple had agreed to host our stay. Dave and Marilee were the proprietors of the Carriage Barn B&B. It was a comfy home set close by the college. We pulled up to the large home and parked our beast in two spaces across the street. Dave greeted us when we arrived and showed us around. The large home had a strong wood interior. The entertainment room housed plenty of books as well as little games. Of course Crystal and I were most interested in our quaint bedroom. My energy always seemed to always succumb to the lure of a soft warm bed.
