Last night the wind shook the tent like crazy. Everyone at the office back home think that my mom and I are complete lunatics for camping out. I’m beginning to feel a little loony actually. Oh yeah, the blood sucking mosquitos added to my lunacy. That’s right, as I wrote last nights post I was the thanksgiving dinner for these dreadful pests. I was fortunate to have most of my body covered but they managed to devour my knees. They got my head as well.
I woke up at six this morning to take clothes out of the dryer which were put in the previous night. It was freezing and I rushed through the folding to try and get a few more moments of precious shut eye. The second time I woke the weather was still the same. Ominous clouds loomed everywhere. They were the big, dark, unfriendly kind that don’t even allow rays of sunlight through. On top of the darkness, the wind was strong and gusty. It seems like every time I pack away the cold weather clothing the elements conspire to make me take them back out. It just isn’t fair.
I think that my left leg probably recieved a better work out then my right leg today. This is due to the fact that I leaned towards my left for the greater part of the day just so that I could stay upright.
Being on high alert made the day go quickly even though it was difficult to run. It wasn’t just the wind that made running difficult though. I was three layers deep in clothing. I didn’t give my legs the usual pre run rubdown. I had to get fully dressed after my shower at the campground. No one said running across the country would be easy. Although, if someone could explain why the sun chose to break through the huge clouds at the end of the day it would be appreciated.
I am hovering around the halfway point of this journey now which is one of those psychological barriers. The good news for me is my upcoming day off after close to three weeks of running. I can’t wait to catch up on some sleep and recharge. It should be able to power me through another state and a half then it’s on to the last leg. With a little luck, I’ll find a new ipod on my day off and get back on track with my Portugese.
