Day 75 Catoosa to Claremore 12 miles

4/25/2011

The only thing that stands in the way of success if fear. The only person holding you back from achieving your wildest dreams is yourself. I’ve discovered and learned much on this journey. But the most important lesson I’ve learned is about control. Quite often people want to control other people, and they want to control their surroundings. This leads to disappointment because the world is unpredictable. I’ve been disappointed many times because of things out of my control.

Today I took control. I controlled my thoughts. I controlled my actions. I put one foot in front of the other. My journey thus far has conditioned me to control my fears. There was a light sprinkle in Catoosa when I started my run but the blackened sky told me it wouldn’t stay calm for long. Against the advice of my trusty mother, I chose to take on the mileage. Within a mile into my run the sprinkles turned into rain. I had no fear. I kept running.

My clothes grew heavier with each drop of rain. I remained unconcerned with the downpour. I didn’t care that I couldn’t see in front of me. What did it matter that my shoes were filled with water. I would just control each step, each breath, and each moment. The only thing that mattered was taking one more step. Lightning flashed. Multiple cracks of thunder followed. I took one more step. I continued stepping until the elements gave me respect. A crack of light pierced the clouds followed by a calm in the air. The storm was the answer to a drought. The calm came after the storm. All things must take their course. The universe maintains it’s balance. There is nothing to fear when you control your thoughts and your actions.

Today’s adventure passed quickly and I’m lucky to be dry and relaxed at the Quality Suites here in Tulsa. Tomorrow will be a day for the kids. I’ll be doing double header for the first time on this trip. Glad I stayed conservative on the mileage. I’m gonna need all the energy I can get.
