Day 79 Miami Oklahoma to Galena Kansas 26 miles

4/29/2011

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, running across state lines never gets old. There is a rush you get when you know that your body and determination took you to a destination. More than anything, it is a mental test. Well, when I think about it, all of life is a mental test. Day after day I keep moving to the final destination with no idea what that destination holds for me.

Many people ask me about the long stretches of road with nothing around. They ask if I get bored. I always answer no. I find the smallest everyday miracles completely fascinating. We live in a time where everything is so fast and it’s only getting faster. We want our answers fast. We want our food fast. We jump into marriage fast. And we jump out of it even faster. What ever happened to sticking things out? What happened to taking little steps to reach big goals? Why must we have instant gratification? Trust me when I say rewards are more enjoyable when you go struggle to reach them. Nothing great comes overnight. We work, we sweat, we bleed, and we cry.
