Day 116 Bloomington to Pontiac 36 miles

6/8/2011

I relaxed my tired muscles in the Vrooman masion after a great meal downtown. I slept pretty soundly in the huge mansion by myself until I heard some noise. After that I had one eye open. Since I didn’t want to sleep through my date with the kids, I had a difficult time putting myself back at ease. Breakfast was scrumtous though. An assortment of fresh fruit sat at the table waiting for me. I was Following that was a plate of scrambled eggs with chese and waffles with strawberries and blueberries. I devoured the meal and saw the time had come for me to make my way to the Scott Early Learning Center. I’m lucky it was only a couple of blocks away. I threw everything into the stroller, gave hugs to Robin and Debbie, then headed out the door.

I always get a kick out of kids. I had a group of older kids mixed in with pre-kindergarteners. Up till this point my little events have always been for ages eight and up. I prayed that I’d be able to hold the attention of the little ones. I didn’t realize I’d have such a great time. One of the kids gave me great directions for running back home. He said I needed to take a right then left then right. I’d say he got it spot on. Another boy had his mind racing. I believe he was thinking faster than his mouth could move. Kindergarten talk brought back fond memories of my little boy who has grown so quickly.

I read to the kids, answered a wide variety of questions, we ran, then I was treated to lunch. At lunch I sat with the older group and boy were they precious. I just hope my message reached them. I truely believe these kids can do anything on which they set their minds.

Late start to the running day. Thirty-six miles. Heat. Another engagement tomorrow. I’m on autopilot. Phone interviews. Press. Planning. On the surface it might seem like I’m going for a nice little run but, there is so much more going on. I consider myself lucky to have my great friends and teamates pulling together. They are going to be so important on the final stretch.

Funny I didn’t cover much ground while the sun blasted me with rays but after recieving a light push from the wind and a phonecall telling me I was still twenty-two miles away from the next town. I began to run. I’m constantly surprised that my body can switch to running mode even when my mind says rest. I cruised into my accomodations taking note of the all the cool sights of Pontiac. There so many cool looking shops and museums. You could call it retro/progressive. Does that make sense to you? I’ll find out more details about the town tomorrow. I just have two words for you, Jaccuzzi bathtub. After two thrity plus mileage days this was a necessity. I filled the tub with bubbles and dunked myself just like Julia Roberts did in Pretty Woman. My muscles relaxed and all was perfect.
