I sadly left the city of Chicago without experiencing everything it had to offer but I had to make tracks. JC and I shot a short wrap up video of Chicago in the morning and I was on my way. It took me a while to find my stride because of the magnificent surroundings. Also, because I had lost my camera, I needed to shoot many of the photos one more time. I even decided to stroll past that milestone located on the corner of Jackson and Michigan St.; the end of route 66.
As I ran out of the city, I’m sure you can predict the change of my surroundings. If you can’t you haven’t been following this adventure. In short the city changed from majestic, to ghetto, to suburb. It happens every time. Once the visuals disappeared, I settled into a nice running pace. Before I knew it I saw the welcome to Indiana sign. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, running across states on foot is a rush unlike any other.
Indiana says it is the boyhood home of Lincoln. Funny, Illinois says it is the land of Lincoln. Everyone seems to want to lay claim to this great figure. Just as I entered Indiana I recieved a call from Amy Moore. She was busy helping get some friends together to run with me tomorrow. We set a start time for seven in the morning. Now all I had to do was get myself to a hotel for a good nights sleep. I was not prepared for a hunt to find my hotel.
The first place I tried was the Fairfield inn. I thought it was nice but I couldn’t allow myself to spend one hundred and fifty bucks for a couple hours rest. I decided to head to Motel 6. It would have been a great plan had used my navigation to get there. Instead I relied on the good ole paper map. The road I wanted to take led to the motel, the only problem was that it was a freeway and the street next to it hit a wall. I had to backtrack all the way to the area of the Fairfield inn. Arrrg. I wanted to pull out my non-existent hair. Four extra miles later I found myself in the lobby of Motel 6. As luck would have it, this was the busiest Motel 6 on the planet. I had to wait an hour before reaching the front desk. I feel bad for the guys that came after me. To top it off, the clerk asked me to return later for an internet access card. I never knew the hours could pass so quickly. Midnight crept in while I took my bath. So much for a good nights sleep. I was so tired I knocked right out though.
