I spent the day preparing to go to the White House. I think it was more exhausting than running. Perhaps it’s because I’m a typical guy and I don’t really enjoy shopping all that much. I must admit, I was feeling excited to see my old friend Sunny. It’s been well over a decade since we’ve last seen each other. Since then he has gone on to recieve a masters and doctorate from Princeton and Yale and he’s been all over the world. He serves our country proudly and for that I salute him. He is an individual which reinforces my message about the importance of reading. I remember as a kid he devoured many many books. Today he is a White House fellow helping work on policies that shape our lives.
The day was filled with many reunions. I got to see Nick, Nick Jr., and Emily. Nick has been instrumental in organizing many of the events we have put on. It was great to see some familiar faces. I don’t really know where the day went. Before I knew it, I was standing in front of what most people think of as the White House. There I met Eric Caufield. He’s also a White House fellow. He was responsible for showing us around and answering all our questions.
We entered through the back of the west wing. It hit me as I stepped through the door. Many of the most important decisions in the history of the world had been made at that location. I even passed the situation room. It’s the room where the Bin Laden capture was orchestrated. I saw gifts from past presidents to the White House as well as priceless works of art. But, I know you are all really wondering if I met the man in charge. He had other engagements to tend. The visit was wonderful regardless. It took several hours to take everything in. What an experience! I can hardly believe all the places my feet have taken me.
