Changes

12/30/2011

If we continue to do the same thing over and over again should we expect different results? The answer is evident. Sometimes it is the smallest change in a routine that sparks an explosive new direction. We are responsible for our own happiness. If we aren’t happy with something the change is in our hands.

Since completing my run across America I’ve had lots of time to think. All the thinking gave me serious withdrawal symptoms and I longed for the road. I missed the magic and I missed being in tune with the universe. I still run just about every day but I’m not logging the monster miles anymore. I try to hover around thirteen to twenty miles a day now. Believe me, it’s not the same.

I’ve made a few little changes to my routine. I’ve even made a slight change in my appearance. The main point of change for me though is my thought process. I’ve begun to think more strategically. I’m thinking about how to reach a massive number of kids. How do we create a movement. I’ve spent hours looking at data and statistics and it is time consuming. It also makes my head spin. I’m shocked that the kids in America have gone from being at the top of the academic food chain to being far from the top ten. How did this happen? I’m shocked to see the rise in childhood obesity. Why is this happening?

I’ve asked who, what, why, when, and how. In the end we must look in the mirror and hold ourselves accountable. No one can give you heart, desire, and will power. These things are all within. What we can do is be an example. We can guide children and show them how to lead a happy productive life. I’ve got some plans for 2012 and the years to follow. Even though I’ve been quiet for a bit, you can trust that I haven’t been wasting my time. They say animals are the most dangerous and hungry when they wake from hibernation.
