Day 104 Lafayette to Opelousas LA. – 21 Miles

12/13/2014

20141213_141210I soaked my legs for a lengthy amount of time last night. When I woke, they felt good but I soaked them again to insure full rejuvenation. For sure I was apprehensive about pushing the legs. They had been tortured enough over the past few days so I took the time to get my blood flowing. For three miles I walked and made sure the limbs were pain free. While I felt good enough to run, I couldn’t say my body was free from aches. I liberated my mind from doubt and let the dogs loose. The auto pilot stayed on for twelve miles before the same pain attacked the same leg.

20141213_154822I when I stopped to massage my calf doubt crept into my mind. I could feel my face grimacing and wondering what was the root of my problem. I examined and reflected on all recent changes. I made a checklist of diet, terrain, mileage, and equipment. With over 2000 miles on these legs I deduced that the problem had to have been the recent selection of shoes. With still five and a half miles to go, again I finished the day walking.

IMG_0134Crystal met me about a mile before the Country Ridge Bed and Breakfast. We enjoyed watching the setting sun as we passed several plantation style houses. Around the corner we tried to have dinner at a crawfish restaurant but we found it was not in season. Funny, I never knew crawfish were seasonal. As the air cooled we arrived at our destination. Festive lights lit the trees by the driveway. I toured the place and came across the clearest pool I had ever seen. The treat came when I reached the bedroom. The first thing I did was run a hot bath in a Jacuzzi tub. I would try the hydro therapy once again. We were staying in the Belle room where the embellishments and furniture reminded one of Southern Belles. The pink pastel colors put me into a relaxed mood and allowed me to really soak in my environment.IMG_0140
