Crystal and I have been blessed to experience some of the most picturesque places on the planet up close and personal. We set out to enrich the lives of kids all over this country, make a difference, and change the world. Of course, we needed to enrich ourselves in the process. I have always been fascinated by water. It is strong but gentle. It has healing powers, and it is the key to all life.
The water of Niagara Falls spilled over cliffs and created a huge rain like mist. Crystal and I tried to maneuver ourselves as close to the bottom as possible. The cool liquid hit our skin and cooled our faces on that sunny day. We didn’t want to walk around completely drenched so we returned to the top and stared at the spectacle from a distance.
That night, the Hampton Inn in Buffalo offered to host us for a second evening. Despite having a packed house, they found room to accommodate us. The extra rest gave my legs wings.
After my muscle tissue regenerated, I took to the streets. I ran past a hockey rink and hugged the curve of the road along Lake Erie. Gusts of wind came off the lake. I threw on the sweatshirt that I had around my waist as the breeze cooled my skin. I could hardly believe that I was shivering. The bustling downtown gave way to a district that had been constructed by bricks. There were large factories which looked as if they were not in operation.
The trip to Lake Erie Beach took very little time. One small town after another lined my path until we reached a quiet parking spot. We were once again ready to rest our tired heads.
I woke up to a radiant sun. My body felt strong and I was ready to take on some more miles. One of the first things I ran past was a casino. I figured I must have been on tribal land. What I didn’t expect were the low gas prices. I removed my phone from my pocket to tell Crystal about the great deal only to discover she had beaten me to the punch. I met up with her seven miles later. We were headed to the Edwards Waterhouse Inn in Fredonia and it wasn’t too far away. I wanted to take advantage of the time and distance so I asked Crystal to meet me in the town.
Maggie and Jeff greeted us with open arms and warm smiles. When I walked into the house, the aroma of fresh jam drifted into my nose. The embellishments of the Inn had been given lots of thought. Art pieces adorned the walls while restored antique furnishings decorated the rooms. Each bedroom had a unique look and beautiful restrooms. We had the pleasure of staying in the Blue Room. The room was named for its soothing blue color. The tub was long and I immediately indulged in a soak with salt and bubbles.
Crystal and I were surprised to discover our hosts had arranged for us to have a delicious meal at Rocco’s restaurant. The place had a room of tables and a bar by the entrance. They were busy and when we tasted our food we understood the reason. My eggplant parmesan had a meaty taste while Crystal’s seafood linguini was flavored with a wine and butter sauce. The town of Fredonia and the locals blessed us with their kindness. After dinner we indulged in a few conversations. I didn’t realize how comfortable I felt until I laid on the bed. The moment my head hit the pillow, my consciousness disappeared.
