Day 128 La Porte to Plymouth, Indiana 36 miles

I got out of bed at five a.m. because I knew Trace and Rich would be arriving at seven to start our running day. I took advantage of the hot tub one last time. I treat every opportunity as if it is my last. The water massaged away every ache from my body. In fact, it left me so relaxed I had to lay down and close my eyes for a minute. I dozed off but it felt like instantly someone was knocking at the door. I knew it meant that it was time to head out. It’s a good thing I prepacked everything the previous evening. Without a doubt, I will miss Serenity Springs.

As we left I stared at the bird houses peppered around the grounds. They are home to the Purple Martin this time of the year. These birds make the journey from Brazil to Indiana...

Day 127 La Porte, In.

I’m not slacking. I promise. I had to fully enjoy the property that I’m staying on. To be at such a special place and not stop to appreciate it would be a sin. I know I’ve had a couple of days off already but really how many times am I going to be able to run across America? I’m really not that far off schedule and besides, this run is also about meeting new and interesting people.

The Ostergen family have welcomed me onto their wonderful property. Rich and Laura picked their son Trace up from Chicago Ohare airport this morning. He is just getting back from Bejing, China. Day 126 Chesterton to La Porte/Michigan City 22 miles

Everytime I camp out, my body rebels against me. Last night the tent was comfy and the grass was soft. The only thing missing was a pillow. I thought I’d wake up fresh this morning. I thought wrong.

At the crack of dawn, a squirl woke me up with his Hurculean effort to join me in the tent. I’m sure he was looking for breakfast. When I attempted move, my body yelled at me. It was the same as the last couple of times I slept without a matress. This must be what senior citizens feel like when they say they are falling apart. My hip is always especially sore because I sleep on my side. No shower, no bath, I cleaned myself with wet wipes and started pushing my stroller towards a breakfast spot. I ate slowly because I was in no rush to hit the road...
