Day 233 and 234 Arlington VA. to Mt. Airy MD. – 42 miles

20150424_224652Crystal and I stayed up later than usual at the Residence Inn. We had our dinner at Fireworks Pizza, the restaurant down below. The line for the place was out the door. The smell of pizza lured the people into the building. Once they went in, they had libations and atmosphere. That night, the D.C. Wizards were playing their third game of their first round playoff series. You can bet a good portion of their customers were glued to the screen. Rest days 230, 231, 232 Washington D.C. and Bowie MD.

IMG_3195Crystal had anticipated the monuments of Washington D.C. for weeks. The plan was to take in as many museums and monuments as possible. Constitution Ave. carried the scent of a large city. Massive monuments were everywhere as were tourists and runners. Our top priority was to see the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The dark clouds in the skies held the threat of rain so it was good that our day would be indoors. Kids swarmed into structure with wide eyes. We spent a few hours looking at biological and anthropological exhibits before our hunger attacked. We walked outside in search of something that would calm our stomachs. Day 228 & 229 Stafford to Arlington – 42 Miles

IMG_3174The rain looked as if it were suspended in midair after a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky. It was coming down hard during our evening in Stafford when Crystal announced that we were going to eat at Chili’s in Stafford. David the manager told her he was very enthused to feed us. I found a tiny bit of energy to run from the trailer to the inside of the restaurant. The building was warm and the staff was friendly. They knew who we were from the moment we stepped through the door. The prompt service impressed me because the seats were packed with bodies.

20150419_184444The meal was exactly what we had come to expect from Chili’s. I tried cheese poppers for my appetizer which was probably the only vegetarian option at Chili’s which I had not tried before...
