Day 186 & 187 New Smyrna to Daytona to Palm Coast FL. 43

3/9/2015

20150306_220701The problem with our trailer wasn’t the bearings and it wasn’t the leaf springs. We were just carrying too much weight. I had my reservations about bringing so many books in our trailer but to be fair, we had already unloaded many boxes. With that knowledge, we celebrated in the Edgewater Sports Pub and Grill with Twinkie and some of the regulars. Crystal and I shot a game of pool while we quenched our thirst. She even danced with a ninety two year old World War II vet. For a moment we worried that the activity might have been too much for him. The minutes ticked down and we returned to the trailer to finish up a movie. The running time of the film was a lot longer than we anticipated. Both our eyelids sagged as we tried our best to finish the film.

Day 184 & 185 Mims to Edgewater to New Smyrna Beach – 34 Miles

3/7/2015

20150307_104037Not a peep was heard while we rested at the Cape Kennedy KOA. We rose from our slumber around the time the tire shops began to open. While Crystal cleaned and organized the trailer, I spent the greater part of the morning calling places to see if they had our trailer tires in stock. After a dozen phone calls and a comparison of prices we settled on a shop a few miles away. The dilemma was that the tires wouldn’t be waiting at the shop. They were to be delivered and there was a possibility that the tires wouldn’t be delivered until three. The only option was to go in opposite directions. Crystal dropped me back to where I ended the previous day and she returned to the tire shop.

Day 183 Cocoa to Mims FL. – 22 Miles

3/5/2015

20150305_115215I navigated my way through construction cones for the first few miles of the day. Tractors roared while I inhaled dust and smog. But, I was fortunate to get through those miles quickly. The first destination of the day was the public library in Titusville. As I made my way to the destination, I passed advertisements for space centers, museums, and air shows. I reminisced on my youth and the fascination I had with model rockets. I must admit, I was tempted to go out and buy an Estes rocket set. I wondered if they were still in business and if kids these days found rocket launching as fun as in the past. Or were they more interested in flinging angry birds at targets.

20150305_121908I ran into the library and immediately searched for the water fountain. The cold hydration tasted like life...
