Day 175 & 176 Wellington to North Palm Beach to Salerno Beach, FLORIDA – 49 Miles

20150224_210448Miscommunication can lead to misunderstanding. When I arrived in Wellington I was so excited to see a couple of friends from different time periods in my life. Our paths all converged conveniently on my 174th day of running. Crystal had worked diligently to secure us a place to meet and hang out. My mom and Crystal got to meet my friends Alejandro and Christian from South America, and my friend Dawn who was living in Wellington. We enjoyed lots of conversation and a light meal. The misunderstanding happened when the check came. Everyone that had come out intended to take care of the bill. Days 163 – 174 A little rest, a nice vacation, stage two Homestead to Wellington – 84 Miles

20150210_135851The proximity of Key West to Marathon was too close for me not to go. Having completed the southern part of my run I wanted to relax a bit. The Florida Keys seemed like the perfect option for such an endeavor. Emerald green iguanas relaxed around Key West. The trees swayed when the cool light winds blew as we walked to Lupita’s Mexican restaurant. Right off the bat I knew I would love the food. The chips had been freshly made and the salsa had a light sweet taste. The enchiladas were filled with cheese and not too salty. The owners of the establishment had a daughter that seemed a bit shy when we first gave her a book. Her name was Elizabeth just like my mom. Day 161 & 162 Key Largo to Islamorada to Marathon – 54 Miles

IMG_1527The Florida Keys reminded me a lot of my native Taiwan. The scent of wild nature growing next to sea water fed me energy. Island culture has always had a laid back feel. Businesses seemed to open late and long haired island dwellers rode their bikes. Of course plenty of majestic houses had been erected close to the road. Yet, they seemed a bit out of reach as they were concealed with coconut trees and other greenery. Every now and then I passed stands filled with coconuts for sale. They only wanted $0.25-0.50. I don’t think the owners of the electrolyte filled nuts even cared if money was left behind.
