Day 117 Shoreline Park to Gulfport MS. – 28 Miles

IMG_0489Patterns of long wavy lines were scribbled on the desolate beaches. I spotted very few people around my running environment. They were missing out on the glorious rays beaming from above. Without a cloud in sight, the day was perfect for running off a holiday meal. As my feet made their way through the state of Mississippi, I noticed the amount of litter on the roadside diminished exponentially. The amount of speeding drivers however, had increased.

P1030520After eight miles, I reached yet another long bridge. A wall protected a lane made for bicyclists and runners. I stayed relatively dry on the two miles stretch over calm water. It surprised me that I wasn’t dripping in sweat like I would have been one state ago; especially since I was right next to the water...

Day 115 & 116 New Orleans LA. to Shoreline Park Mississippi – 50 Miles

P1030430On the day before Christmas the day started with hot chocolate and beignets. Crystal and I agreed that it was a good idea to enjoy the New Orleans specialty one last time. Despite the previous night’s downpour and despite being Christmas eve, the streets were packed. The sweet powder of the French donuts dissolved in my mouth as tourists and locals crowded between the green awning of the restaurant. They had lowered the canvas walls to keep some of the cold out.

20141224_145540We loved every minute of our stay at the best hotel in New Orleans; The Historic Olivier House. Our room was the best part of visiting the city. The comfort and ambience had surpassed my expectations but it was time to get back on our journey. Once I reached the east side of New Orleans, the roads silenced...

Day 114 New Orleans

IMG_0310Life and adventure are made up of brief moments and tiny gems. When Crystal and I toured the Historic Olivier House Hotel, I knew we had stumbled onto a treasure. We took a tour of the place before we settled into the honeymoon suite. The high ceiling and wrap around balcony gave me plenty of breathing room. I sat my bags on one of the Victorian styled furnishings and took advantage of the delux Jacuzzi bathtub. I wanted to freshen up before the evening.

P1030350It was hard to believe there was plenty of sun and time left in the day. Of course not one minute was to be wasted. We readied ourselves in minutes and went out to explore the streets of the French Quarter. We discovered music being played everywhere in the streets...
