Day 103 Crowly to Lafayette LA. – 20 Miles

IMG_0107I racked my brain for the different ways to present the fact that we stayed in the cold trailer parked in a large lot once again. Plenty has happened on this adventure. We faced major obstacles and we overcame each one. Of course we expected hindrances, detours, and adjustments. We accepted the physical and mental challenge knowing there would be days where we’d want to throw in the towel. Luckily the Hilton in Lafayette had a room waiting for us the next day. We just had to make it there.

Day 102 Jennings to Crowly 22 Miles

20141211_110629Once again Crystal and I found ourselves spending the night in the parking lot of a shopping center. There we stumbled upon Gatti’s Italian Food. We entered the establishment with growling tummies. Fortunately, they were willing to help us quell that hunger. They gave us plates and bowls for the salad bar and buffet as well as two cups for drinks. I started with some fresh chilled fruit and vegetables. I felt the nutrition entering my body with each fresh crunchy bite. Of course I had to eat plenty of pizza to replenish all the energy I put into running. With our appetites silenced, we returned to the cold trailer. The lights of the parking lot dimmed as did my consciousness.

Day 100 & 101 Lake Charles to Jennings LA. – 25 Miles

20141209_114010I previously thought I could run in any kind of shoe. With that superman mentality, I bought several pair of shoes on clearance when I was back in Houston. A couple days ago, I put on a new pair that looked like it had a soft midsole. The thirty mile run seemed to pass without a hitch and my joints weren’t screaming at me. All seemed fine until I woke up for day 100. From the moment I got out of bed I knew something was wrong. My shins felt like needles were poking into them. Having overworked my shins in the past I knew a thing or two about shin splints and I knew that if I tried to run I would set myself back more than if I just took the day off. So day 100 was spent parked on a person’s property watching videos from our laptops...
