Day 72 & 73 Brackettville to Uvalde 49 Miles

IMG_4490Over the past few days, the landscape continued to evolve as did the wildlife. I caught a crew of antelope grazing. They had strong bodies like stallions and they ran very fast. I tried my best to get a shot of them with my camera but when I pulled my phone out of the case, they had already taken cover behind some trees in the distance. I could see their antlers but in the photograph the horns just blended in with the vegetation. These creatures reminded me of a book that was awaiting my approval. From that moment on, my body was on the road but my mind was on the Papa Didos Universe.

Day 71 Del Rio to Brackettville 32 Miles

IMG_4455The taste of cold pizza in the morning is common to college kids. I suppose it provides a fast boost of calories. I thought cold pizza was a thing of my past but when this morning rolled around I thought it was best to consume yesterday’s leftovers. We take nothing for granted and we try not to waste anything that gives us energy.

20141109_140659Just like in college, there are lessons to be learned on the road. On today’s run I passed so many animals that had been hit by cars and I wondered, were the creatures ignorant about crossing the dangerous road? Porcupines, javalinas, raccoons, deer, and armadillos were all victims of the speeding steel machines. I could smell the putrid rotting flesh any time I approached another casualty. They helped me pick up the pace every time.

Day 70 Amistad Reservoir to Del Rio 16 Miles

IMG_4440When the endless rain of biblical proportions finally ceased, I welcomed the sun like an old friend. Oh how I missed the sun. The damp clothes had begun to pile up in the trailer. I even thought I caught the scent of mildew. Luckily I was wrong, it was the scent of sweat and rainwater: which was just as bad if not worse. The sun was the remedy that would make everything better.

IMG_4446Waking up at the Holiday Trav-L-Park was very relaxing. The green trees gave the place plenty of life. Instead of having breakfast as usual, I delayed my morning meal to look at the lake. I did however have a hot chocolate. Despite the many days of missed posts, due to the lack of signal, I took my time updating my travel journal...
