For those of you that have read “The Tenth Floor”, like Prince Dee, I fell asleep. I mean I really fell asleep. I’ve been working like a horse. My body decided to shut down and rest for a seriously long time. I don’t know about you but when I sleep more than twelve hours my body feels even more tired. I did get up occasionally to grab a snack but it wasn’t until around dinner time that I really began to surface.

Day 72 Sapulpa to Tulsa 20 miles

In the early 1900’s Tulsa was the oil capital of the world. The black gold fueled the boom of this country. Industry florished, wealth was created, people travelled freely. Roads and buildings were erected everywhere. It was a good time to be American. Here in Tulsa I see many reminders of those golden days. When I see the rusted factories, I think about how grand they must have looked when they were first built. When I see the oil rigs I think to myself how the people back then could never have envisioned our country becoming dependent on foreign oil.

These days, there is still old money in the city. There are plenty of mansions from the days of the oil boom. What strikes me though are the areas where poverty is more than obvious...

Day 71 Bristow to Sapulpa 26 miles

There is nothing like running in rain to get you running purposefully. My purpose for the day was to get to my destination without seeing baseball size hail raining down on my shaved head. It seemed to work. I polished off the day before three thirty. I even took a lunch break at a roadside gas station.

As I ran today, I didn’t see too many special landmarks. Of course, all I did was focus on the road. What I did do though was think about Oklahoma. It’s the state of sooners. I wonder how many people out there know just what a sooner is. In case you are wondering, sooners were people who used to get ahead of the starting line when the government had these things called land runs...
