Day 339 and 340 Rogers to St. Joseph MN. – 53 Miles

20150814_132533Life is like sport. There are ebbs and flows. At times it is easy to ride the waves of momentum to a peak. Of course, every moment change happens and momentum shifts. I had spent the last days of Wisconsin and the first days of Minnesota riding a wave of energy. It got me caught up on work and I was on the go. I had plenty of company to keep me running efficiently. Suddenly the landscape changed. On day 339 I found my body wanting to just stay in bed. The sheets at the Hampton Inn were comfortable as always and I had filled my tummy with several hot waffles. I decided to remain motionless and let the minutes tick away. Even though the rest replenished my strength, it couldn’t produce cloud cover on a scorching day.

Day 337 and 338 St. Paul to Rogers MN. – 34 Miles

8/13/2015

20150811_142936I rolled out of bed, stretched my arms, and looked around. The house was completely silent. It was a great day for everyone to sleep in. I knew I didn’t have to run until 6:00pm. I could hardly believe that I had had company on the road for so many days in a row. The support started as a trickle but the steady movement forward had turned the trickle into a stream.

Crystal and I enjoyed another warm family breakfast with Ocean, Pa Der, and Alexi. They filled us with an abundance of sweet and juicy fruits, more protein packed egg burritos, and handfuls of almonds. Breakfast was brief. Unfortunately we had to bid farewell to Ocean once the dining was finished. He had to get to work. Crystal and I gave him a hug and then we returned to rest.

11866314_10153427868856154_650558104848770812_nCrystal and I woke up to a wonderful breakfast of champions. Our hosts Oceany and Pa Der had prepared a nutrition packed breakfast. The scent of scrambled eggs kick started my salivary glands. I began my meal with some almonds and fruit. It was a nice combination of pure protein and a dose of sweetness. I ate a large portion of scrambled eggs and several English muffins to put fuel in my tank. I had the feeling that we wouldn’t have too many breaks on this day.

IMG_45561We departed for Hudson early to resume the journey. We met up with Victor in front of the library. He came sprinting up to us with boundless energy. Victor was a nineteen year old college student but he looked as if he were still in high school. We shot a quick video before setting our legs in motion...
