I woke up to turtles playing in the pond behind the fifth wheel. The sun beamed and so did I. Crystal made me a cup of hot green tea to start the day while I attempted to post my blog. The signal repeatedly cut out so it was impossible to upload my pictures. It meant I’d have to wait before updating the world on my progress. I continued to try after having my usual cheese, egg, and veggie sandwich but the internet was intent on keeping me silent. I did help Crystal ready the trailer for the arrival of my mother though. I felt relaxed as I wiped down dusty blinds and edges around the window.

The Florida sun had decided to bless me with longer days...

The days have started to blend together. I tried my best to keep my days straight but, there are days that pass without a spot to post my progress. It is a slippery slope when things aren’t maintained. In an instant the steady road becomes an uphill climb. I’m lucky I like hill work and that things never slipped beyond reach.

Gulf Hammock had no internet, no store, and not electricity. It would have been a complete stretch of wilderness had it not been for the stoplight and post office. Surprisingly a couple people stopped momentarily at the abandoned market’s parking lot. One lady got out of her car and started calling for her cat. As I peered out at the lady, I wondered if her cat ran to the abandoned market regularly and how far had she travelled...

As the people in the northern part of the United States battled freezing cold, warm beams of light tickled my face. On the 139th day of my journey, I was greeted with spinach quiche, biscuits, pinapple, and juice. The start of the day signaled good fortune. Katelyn interviewed me and Crystal over breakfast. We recounted the ups and downs of the journey in between delicious bites of food. When all was finished, we set out to snap a few photos for the publication. In between photos, I met a sweet couple that was very familiar with Cross City and its history. Bill and Sybil had witnessed the changes of the town over the years and they mentioned the place had swanky parties back in the day. They were so glad Beverly and Ed purchased the property to restore its glory.
