Day 114 New Orleans

IMG_0310Life and adventure are made up of brief moments and tiny gems. When Crystal and I toured the Historic Olivier House Hotel, I knew we had stumbled onto a treasure. We took a tour of the place before we settled into the honeymoon suite. The high ceiling and wrap around balcony gave me plenty of breathing room. I sat my bags on one of the Victorian styled furnishings and took advantage of the delux Jacuzzi bathtub. I wanted to freshen up before the evening.

P1030350It was hard to believe there was plenty of sun and time left in the day. Of course not one minute was to be wasted. We readied ourselves in minutes and went out to explore the streets of the French Quarter. We discovered music being played everywhere in the streets...

Day 112 & 113 Lutcher to New Orleans LA. – 45 Miles

P1030336The excitement for the road returned to my feet. I was ready to ride the wind at the crack of dawn. When I ran out of fresh shoes, aches crept into my body. It was then that this adventure began to lose its luster. My mental and physical health had always been tied together so both needed to be in tune to conquer such a journey. But, before I could hit the road, I still had to expel the waste from the trailer.

P1030347Through several states I had been fortunate enough to capture shots of various wildlife. On day 112 I had brought my camera to add some photos to my collection. A shot of a live alligator eluded my camera but I did get a few cranes. They cohabitated mainly in the swamp but I did notice that some of the birds seemed to have adapted to life next to huge refineries...

Day 110 & 111 Gonzales to Lutcher LA. – 28 Miles

20141220_095320The constant flow of water from the sky kept Crystal and me inside the entire day. We went to a coffee shop to catch up on work. She was busy on the computer and phones searching for an RV park that would donate a stay for the evening. A gentleman dressed in hospital scrubs overheard Crystal’s attempts on the phone and gave us a few suggestions of where to look. David ended up donating the money for a night’s stay and he bought some books for his son. It was a blessing. Despite the downpour, we spent a cozy day in the trailer. Hands down, it beat trying to go up against some of the maniacs behind the wheel.

20141220_134432With yet another day of rest completed, my body was once again like new. It was time to push myself. I slipped on a new pair of Saucony shoes to resume the journey...
