Day 66 & 67 Dryden to Langtry 34 miles

20141104_124940Every day nature gets you out of bed one way or another. On day 66, the sound of thousands of raindrops pelting the trailer was natures preferred method. Without a snooze button to mute the droplets, the volume increased; despite my efforts to hide in my fortress of blankets. There was plenty of hesitation and I found many ways to delay stepping out of the trailer. But, the invariable outcome was that I would open my eyes and begin my routine.

Day 65 Sanderson to Dryden 27 miles

IMG_4287Dark clouds covered the expansive Texas sky. I could smell and taste rain in the air. It was coming, but I was sure it was still a day away.
The day started with a trip to the food pantry. We were looking for a few food items at the Stripes gas station. Our fresh fruit and vegetable donations were beginning to run dry; my high calorie intake was probably the culprit. Crystal informed a lady named Michelle that the store had run out of eggs. They got to talking and she happened to be a county commissioner. She said the judge would probably give her the key to the food pantry so that we could get some items to tie us over. The next real city with a selection was still 120 miles away. Thank goodness for small town hospitality.

Day 64. Outskirts of Marathon to Sanderson TX. 34 Miles

IMG_4142Changing time zones, changing temperature, set the clock back for fall daylight savings. Which way is up? Adaptation has been the key to staying sane. We adjusted to the heat. Apparently we will have to adjust to the cold and the wind.

IMG_4137The breakfast must have taken all morning to prepare. My lazy body crawled into the dining room. I had slept a good nine hours and my body wanted more. It wasn’t until the food appeared that my body decided to wake from a zombie like state. Two egg frittatas were available for breakfast. One was made with portabella mushroom and spinach, the other was made with potatoes and cheese. We had a wonderful focaccia bread to go with the eggs...
