Day 60 Alpine towards Marathon TX. 16 miles

IMG_3951A friendly gesture can change a person’s entire day. As the season changes and the temperature drops, it would make sense to increase the daily mileage. Perhaps this will happen sometime soon but it might not happen at all if we continue encountering such festive people as Tshar. He was a lively dark skinned Indian fellow born in Uganda. It is his Ramada we have had the privileged to experience. The room was spacious, the water was plenty hot, and the pillows were soft but it was the personality of the person in charge that made this place so fun.

Day 59 Marfa to Alpine TX. 25 miles

IMG_3884Early start but where was the sun? I stumbled outside at 7:00 AM and it felt like night. I was due to meet Ms. Heidi Roman’s fourth grade class around 8:10 so I splashed some water on my face and started to get dressed. I was mentally ready because my sleep consisted of dreams about what I would say to the kids. With each event I have taken notes on how to make my impact stronger. I have watched what gets to the kids and what puts them to sleep. Of course there is always room for improvement and I’m sure I will forever be a student.

Day 58 Outskirts of Valentine to Marfa TX. – 24 miles

IMG_3838Cheep, cheep, cheepcheep, cheep, tap, tap, tap, the birds decided to have a party on the top of the trailer. From the sound of things they were having a ball. Looking around at the picnic area it seemed there weren’t too many places for the little birds to play. The festivities came at the expense of mine and Crystal’s deep slumber. No more late starts.
