Day 52 Montoya to Lesbia via Paloma 28 miles

I originally didn’t feel like getting out of bed today. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised by the large selection of items at the breakfast here at the Tucumcari Best Western. But, even a big breakfast wasn’t enough to jump start my tired body. I ended up napping for another hour. Montoya was calling me and I couldn’t rest peacefully knowing that I had road to cover. My feet hit the path at almost eleven. The cost of extra rest was that I’d have to run in the hot sun. I guess there is a trade off for everything.

Now if there is one thing that has recurred on this trip, it is that wonderful moments can happen at the most unlikely of places. First on a desolate patch of the old route 66 a lady motorist and her family pulled up to ask me if I was alright...

Day 51 Cross Road to Montoya 27 miles

aSometimes taking the road less travelled means taking a road that has already been travelled by many. As the world progresses and technology moves ahead, we often leave the old behind. Personally I love old stuff. I love old cars, old music, old gadgets, and now I’ve fallen in love with the old route 66. Over the course of this journey I’ve found myself running alone on a road that was once America’s highway. I’ve imagined the journeys and the characters the road has seen.

Today was one of my more solitary running days. I ran lightly because it was the first day of hot weather. In fact, I sunburned one of my arms. I’m not sure how the left arm avoided being cooked...
