Isn’t it funny how much more we appreciate something once it is taken away?

I am so glad I rested my foot for these past few days. It feels like it’s at one hundred percent again. I resisted the urge to run on it. The restraint seems to have paid off. Not only does my body feel rejuvenated, I have rediscovered my passion for running. Funny how we appreciate things so much more once they are taken away.

At times, I think living in such a great country spoils us. We don’t always see how lucky we are. Imagine what life would be like if all our freedoms were taken away. It seems like many people are going through a rough time these days. But, I can say with certainty that despite our recession, we in this country have it better than most of the world. We have a very strong foundation and more universities than anywhere else.

I am exactly two weeks away from the beginning of my run. I am running across this country and I will be reading to kids along the way. If we want to stay a world leader, we must make our children strong both physically and mentally. We’ve got steps to take.
