Day 20 Hope to Gladden 25 1/2 miles

3/1/2011

I think the legs are back. Got through today’s mileage and my shins feel great. I don’t want to jinx anything. I won’t go too aggressive tomorrow but it’s kind of hard to hold back. I guess it’s because I’m a guy that likes to be in high gear.

We got a late start on the day so JC and I had to run in the mid-day sun. I think the sun has healing properties. I mean all life on the planet needs sunlight to grow right? Well, our midpoint destination was a great little restaurant in a tiny town called Wenden. We missed it yesterday because they were only open for lunch. Today it would have closed on us if mom didn’t drive ahead to tell Gloria and Dawn we were making a special trip to eat at the restaurant. The place had an artistic and rustic decor. I received a phone call saying they were closing at two o’clock. The time was one forty and JC and I were still several miles away. I kicked it into overdrive and arrived right on time. My veggie sandwich was delicious and the atmosphere was very artistic.

With that said, I was informed that Ingredients restaurant would be closing it’s doors for good in a month. Gloria said it’s next life would be an artists’ studio. It’s an apropriate incarnation due to it’s artistic surroundings. After my meal she took us for a tour around her backyard which was filled with many artistic pieces. I filmed the entire experience and I got a few picture. They bought two of my books and we continued on the road. I’m happy I was able to have this simple experience before it closed it’s doors.

I love running at night but not when there are no streetlights. It’s dark, kinda scary, and you cant see your hand in front of your face. We called the day around sunset and headed back to last night’s lodging. Hello Rancho De Los Caballeros. The facilities are nice and there is nothing better than a good breakfast buffet. (especially when we have another day of marathon mileage. We love you.
