Day 48 Moriarty to Clines Corner 21 miles

3/29/2011

Tailwind good! Ample rest good! I was groggy when I got out of bed today. I think perhaps I let myself rest just a little too much and my body got used to it. It didn’t matter though because once I began taking the steps my body just wanted to push further and faster. I finished my day around half past noon. I wanted to make sure I reached the hotel in time to thank everyone in person for making my stay in Albuquerque spectacular.

While I was on the road, again the scenery began to change right before my eyes. I felt like I was in an episode of “Little House on the Prairie”. I half expected to see two little girls rolling down some grassy hills. I thought a bit about yesterday as I took my steps. I thought about the invitations from the kids to return to their school in May. They are having a celebration for their Pueblo. I thought to myself how wonderful it would be to return at that time and see what kind of progress these kids have made.

I’ll be out of New Mexico pretty soon but, I will surely return. How could I not come back and see all my new friends. After stocking up on Powerade at Walmart, I returned to the Hyatt to find Jeff and the rest of the crew. Lucky for me they were still there and I was able to chat a little about my plans to return. We took a couple pictures and I signed a few books. I asked them to recommend a good sushi restaurant. Sure Albuquerque might not be very close to the ocean but, I’m a vegetarian so I was pretty sure I was going to be safe. I was right. Sushi King hit the spot and I left stuffed. It’s a good thing too because the oranges Hanh donated are finally all gone and so is the first case of cereal donated by Dave and Marissa.
