Day 66 Yukon to Northeast Oklahoma City 18 miles

4/16/2011

I slept in today secure in the knowledge that my day off was imminent. And when I did get up, I headed to the store to buy a few necesities including a new ipod so that tomorrow would be free of chores that suck up time.

I began the day’s journey in the afternoon. It’s amazing how quickly the weather switches. But, if you’ve been following this insane adventure you are well aware of how fickle mother nature is. The sun warmed my bones and helped my blood flow. As I ran, the scenery once again changed before my very eyes. My vast sprawling green fields of swaying wheat gave way to the concrete jungle. The chirping of crickets and the singing of birds gave way to roaring engines and blasting stereos. The American made trucks and cars were replaced with imports. My wilderness and swampland transformed into urban asphalt and planned communities. And finally my wonderful, humble, caring, kind, humans, became the busy people in the dog eat dog rat race.

I am a product of both the city and the country and I’m not sure which one I prefer. I’m always talking about the balance between the body and mind but when you think about it there is a balance between all things in the universe. I mean, in order for me to fully appreciate the city or the country I need a frame of reference exactly opposite. It’s easy to take the beauty in front of you for granted. That’s why the saying “The grass is greener on the other side.” exists. I guess my gift was always being able to appreciate my own lawn. Hey, the world is my playground.

The trip through the city was pretty quick and when things began to look country once again, I called it the day. I figured the light run was sufficient. Time to give this body a much deserved break.
