Day 105 Eureka to St. Louis 33 miles

5/28/2011

Today brought about the toughest hills of Missouri. They were long climbs with no running lanes. The oncoming traffic was fast and some of the drivers didn’t seem aware of a person on the road. This is how the first ten miles passed. Luckily there was no rain other than a one minute downpour. I was fortunate enough to take cover in a little tunnel at that time.

After the hills, franchises began to sprout. The landscape changed from green beautiful trees and little lakes to strip malls and chain stores. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought I was in California or any other suburban city. As I watched all the familiar stores pass before my eyes, I began to get hungry. There were places to eat all around but I decided I wanted to have something special. I held out for a while until I encountered an Afghani restaurant on Manchester street. It called my name and I obeyed. I had a giant plate of briyani and three samosas. It was enough to fuel the rest of the day.

Arriving in St. Louis was fantastic except for the misty sprinkling rain. It kept the fantastic skyline from my sight. I was diggin the city though. The structures with fine architecture were abundant. It was a lot to take in. I was in a city once again. After checking into a hotel next to the Arch, I chilled out for a minute. I decided that I had to have a Budweiser because I was in St. Louis Missouri, home of Anhueser Busch. They even have an Anhueser Busch university. I’m glad I took the stroll because the rain had stopped and the city at night was beautiful. Walking around alone was nice enough but it would have been out of this world if I had someone to enjoy it with.
