Day 135 Ada to Upper Sandusky 29 miles

6/27/2011

The day started with a trip to the Wilson football factory in Ada. Angie and I tried to take a tour and see how all the leather footballs are made. Unfortunately, the factory doesn’t give tours on Mondays. So, it was back to Justin and Amber’s house. As I began to take off, we noticed my tire was flat once again. How was this possible? I just changed two tubes. Luckily it happened at their house instead of on the road. We discovered part of a spoke had poked through the rubber. Justin helped me patch the tube and we were up and running again. Me and the open road.

If I was a foreigner walking around the countryside, I would think John Deere means monster. Some of the farming machinery out there scares the life out of me. As I head towards the huge robots, I feel like a guppy taking on Moby Dick. And what about my tiny imaginary baby that I’m pushing in my stroller. Surely it’s a goner. The beasts occupy more than just their lane. They also jutt into the oncoming traffic and my dear running lane. I do my best to manuver as far away as possible. Sometimes it means getting pulled down the side of a hill. After all, my stroller and stuff weigh more than a hundred pounds. Today I encountered one that looked like a metallic mutant cross between a scorpion and a spider. It even sounded fierce. Maybe this is an exercise in character building.

Ohio has treated me good thus far. I’ve met some great people that’s for sure. The only qualm I have is that some of the vehicles pass pedestrians pretty closely. Perhaps it’s time for my support vehicle to return so that I can run hands free every day again. I’d also be able to flee from the motor terrorists much quicker. I swear, some of them are looking at me like a target to hit.
