Day 139 Wooster to Canton 31 miles

7/3/2011

I think one of the ghosts from the Mansfield Reformatory wanted to play a trick on me. I felt pain in my right foot the moment I got out of bed. I tried massaging it with some sports cream but the tender feeling didn’t go away. Being a certified hypochondriac, I began to freak out. I started to self diagnose myself as a million thoughts ran through my head. One thing to know, being close to the end of this journey does not make me feel calm when my body speaks. I scrutinize every little ache because I can’t let anything stop me now.

I had two breakfasts before I hit the road. Blueberry crepes with cheese, potato soup, hash browns, cereal, pastries, and juice were the items I needed to begin waking up. Perhaps I just needed to put more fuel into the machine for my feet to feel better. Often times I find that food will help my ailing parts. I know it’s strange.

When I began running, the pain was still there. It wasn’t completely unbearable so I continued on. As I ran, it dawned on me that I had a horrible sleep. I also didn’t get to soak my bones in salt. It has become a very important part of my routine. But, after a few miles on the road, some bones in my feet made a cracking sound and the pain disappeared. The body is a miracle. I will never understand how it fixes itself.

Late afternoon hit and I missed one of my side roads. I found myself on the side of a highway. Within minutes I found myself surrounded by three police cars. Usually it’s just one police officer that takes the time to stop me. I knew the drill, show them my license and wait for my record to come up clean. Like every time I am stopped, the cops wished me well and told me I was crazy. I found my way to the Courtyard Marriot in Canton where the staff had been waiting to greet me. I rewarded my body with a super hot bath. It’s going to be good sleep tonight.
