Day 7 Work Hard Play Hard

9/2/2012

This might come as a shock but, I’m no saint. I’ve made plenty of mistakes in my short time here. But then again if I didn’t make any mistakes I wouldn’t have gained wisdom. I wouldn’t be the person I am today. And, while I may be flawed, no one can accuse me of not working hard. I’m not just talking about running either. Anything I choose to take on merits my best effort. If I give anything less I fail myself.

I often talk about balance so surely the harder one works the harder one must play. It can be a vicious cycle. What other option does one have? I know I mentioned that I would write about nutrition. I’ll get to that in another post. It’s just that I’ve always found my themes to be more relevant when I write about what’s happening in my life. So the title of today’s blog is Work hard play hard. Yes it is a title of a Wiz Kalifa song and I like it. But I chose this theme because I’ve been reflecting on my life and what has happened over these past couple of years. I’ve been thinking about the focus I’ve put on rising from the ashes and how I haven’t given myself a chance to relax. It seems that when I was on the top of my game all I did was play and relax. It all came to a screeching halt. Then….hibernation. By hibernation I don’t mean sleep. While I did recharge, I was really fortifying my resolve and strengthening my body. It allowed me to to conquer many obstacles.

It has been over a year since I completed my run across America. Now I’m preparing to make a bigger impact. I will utilize everything I learned on the road, in life, as well as in the class room. I just realized that my work is my play and vice versa! I think that might make me a lucky man.
