Day 3 Newport Beach to Dana Point – 17.4 miles

8/27/2014

TrailerI finished talking to Daisy, the reporter for Kcal 9 and CBS at around 11:30. I lounged around for roughly another hour and a half before taking off for the day. Some might have considered that a mistake as the weather was scorching. Perhaps the summer sun felt like going out with a bang. To tell the truth, buckets of sweat were dripping from my pores even during the interview. I thought all would be fine since the mileage was short and it was a route familiar to my legs. I was wrong!

Crystal coveI had a few items which needed tending along the way. First, I had to collect a sizeable donation from western union. It would have been short but it took me going into two establishments before they could draft the amount. Minus thirty minutes. Then of course I didn’t want to carry large donations in my old baby stroller. I stopped into the bank. All the little distractions served to break my stride. But all was still fine until I received the call from Crystal and my mom. The turn to the hotel was somewhat confusing. Even as I ran to the place I found the zooming cars and the crossing freeway somewhat disorienting. It didn’t matter at the end though. Crystal found her way just fine after a few breaths. I thought all was good until the lion sized roar from a speeding Ferrari Zoomed past me. I’m sure the guy driving had some issues with insecurity. I can appreciate a purring engine but I can’t appreciate it from the grave. Even Chuck felt frazzled.

Again the waves to my right were huge. But the wind and shade were absent. I was lucky the Doubletree Hotel in Dana Point welcomed me with open arms. Cookies, cold water, and a hot bath. Ahhhhhh. Time to relax. Laguna
