Day 124 Seminole Alabama to Pensacola Florida – 22 Miles

1/2/2015

P1030546I was surprised to hear multiple vehicles roaring by at six in the morning on the Spanish Trail Road, otherwise known as the 90. Our parking spot seemed like such a quaint out of the way spot when we decided to park there. Adrenaline pumped through my body and kept me from feeling any aches or pains. After a quick breakfast of scrambled eggs with grilled veggies on a croissant. The light buttery pastry melted in my mouth. Before I knew it, I was ready to take off.

P1030551The proximity of the Alabama/Florida border was only a couple miles away. So it felt like I had only run for a couple minutes before Crystal and I were snapping photos of the final border crossing of the first stage of four. I was shy of the outskirts of Pensacola by a dozen miles. All the electronic devices we possessed were close to dying so Crystal and I agreed to meet in the town at a restaurant where she could charge everything. The sea breeze kept me cool on as I kept an eye out for rain. The area had a strong military presence. I passed lots of housing for soldiers and their families. As I ran, I remembered one of my uncles was stationed there many years ago.

P1030562Crystal greeted me with the news that Chili’s had agreed to donate lunch. They were only a few miles away from where she was parked. I arrived to a wonderful reception. Everyone in the place greeted me with smiles. Of course the food aroused my appetite and I knew exactly what I would order. The broccoli I ordered tasted buttery and lightly salted. Of course my black bean burger gave me enough energy to finish the day with strong legs.

P1030566The street leading up to downtown Pensacola was lined with rough looking motels. It came as a real shock when I turned onto Palafox St. It was as if I stepped into a different city. Suddenly everything seemed hip. A couple of blocks took me to Sole Inn and Suites. The first thing I took notice of at the hotel was the outside embellishments. Stone lions protected the outside of the lobby and a mermaid fountain kept a constant flow of water. I entered the modern rooms and knew that a night of relaxation awaited.P1030581
