Day 324 and 325 Manitowoc to Green Bay WI. – 38 Miles

8/1/2015

20150730_143752The lake sat motionless next to the Village Inn Resort. Crystal cleaned the trailer until noon and I got some extra rest until it was time for me to hit the road.

I stretched my legs and began making my way through the town. I could taste the humidity in the air but the constant flow of wind kept me from overheating. The several upcoming running days seemed to be light on mileage. Any time my legs logged less than a marathon meant I would have extra energy. The country roads connected me with a trail that led right to Crystal. I found her napping in the trailer despite a lack of fresh flowing air. It seemed the wind had died down and the summer sun sat unopposed. I too decided it was a good place for a nap. Even though I had only run a few miles, I was always ready for a nap.

20150730_153657The Devil River trail called my name and pulled me out of bed. The trees along the route were like the Giving Tree. They generously provided shade as well as food for the animals. The trail caused Crystal and me to part ways. Eight miles felt like three. Before I knew it, I found myself at the trailhead in the town of Denmark. It was a quaint place with a wonderful little saloon. The 21 Gun Saloon had the best pizza in the Green Bay area. The ladies in the joint donated a large veggie pizza with ample amounts of cheese. My tummy felt full after five pieces and I had to walk for a bit to reach the Shady Acres Campground. Had I not run at such a quick pace on the trail, Crystal would have gotten a good workout. As we strolled, tiny drops of water fell from the sky. She decided to turn around at the one mile point and we met right outside of the campground.

20150730_175550The next day was an even shorter run to Green Bay. I started my morning with the breakfast of champions: cold pizza. Rushing onto the road was unnecessary. We had just thirteen miles to run before reaching the Quality Inn. Like the day before, on the trail, I just ran free. I didn’t try to pace myself because of the distance and we ended up in Green Bay before check in. We used our extra time to dine inside the trailer. The light days were good for my body and I made sure to take advantage of every relaxing moment.20150731_131652
