Day 99 Rained out in Rolla 0 miles

Woke up to the sound of pouring rain. I rolled out of my king bed, rubbed my eyes and opened the curtains. Yep, It was a blanket of dark clouds. It didn’t look like the sun would be making an appearance in the near future but, I needed a few supplies. I wanted to do some maintenance on my body before suffering a breakdown. Like a car we gotta keep ourselves tuned up and oiled. So, I threw on my poncho and headed for the grocery store a mile away. Now a mile might seem miniscule compared to the mileage I acquire daily but let me assure you, when the roads are slippery and you aren’t feeling one hundred percent, it can feel more difficult than running a marathon.

Day 98 St. Robert to Rolla Mo. 26 miles

Waking up was difficult today. I think the fourty-three miles took it’s toll on me. Luckily the Liberty Lodge had plenty of restaurants nearby because my hunger was insatiable. I ate quickly because I needed to get myself back into bed. Considering I didn’t catch a wink at the campground, I think it was fair to allow myself extra rest. I fell back into a deep slumber until house keeping came around to tidy the room. Good thing too, had I slept in any longer the day I might have missed out on the day.

I went to the front desk to check out and say thank you to my wonderful hosts. I gave all the ladies there books for their kids and we took lots of pictures. I didn’t even realize I was being adopted into the Liberty family...

Day 97 Lebanon to St. Robert 43 miles

What can I say about today; my second day without a support vehicle. I think I need to become more conservative in my estimations. Things might look tiny and easy on a map but the real world is very different let me assure you. I’ve had a full day to say the least. I’ll share my discoveries now since we learn something new everyday.

Waking up freezing on a bed made of pebbles is not very fun. In fact trying to sleep through a night in those conditions is not very fun either. However, if you are planning to run fourty-three miles the next day it can contribute to hallucinations.

Taking a nap under the sun on a nice bench might seem like a good idea when you are tired but, be prepared to deal with the sunburn...
