Day 7 Work Hard Play Hard

This might come as a shock but, I’m no saint. I’ve made plenty of mistakes in my short time here. But then again if I didn’t make any mistakes I wouldn’t have gained wisdom. I wouldn’t be the person I am today. And, while I may be flawed, no one can accuse me of not working hard. I’m not just talking about running either. Anything I choose to take on merits my best effort. If I give anything less I fail myself.

I often talk about balance so surely the harder one works the harder one must play. It can be a vicious cycle. What other option does one have? I know I mentioned that I would write about nutrition. Days 3&4 High mileage High food intake

I never call myself an expert. I just refer to myself as a person with a little bit of knowledge and experience. Often times people ask me for advice about exercising or about nutrition. I’m usually hesitant to offer my suggestions. I feel like the things I have to offer are common knowledge or obvious. This is a habit I need to get away from. I noticed the ideas and concepts I thought of as obvious were new to some folks. And the people that already knew what I was talking about appreciated the refresher.

Day 2 Training Smart

I’ve been putting in regular mileage every day for the past week. Today I decided to focus on something many runners neglect. I spent two hours working on upper body strength. Like I’ve said time and again, everything is about balance. To be a better runner it is important to strengthen the core for stability, the shoulders for posture, and arms for speed. To keep my blood flowing in between sets I would run a quick half mile run.

At the moment, my body feels good. Even though I took time away from extreme training I never abandoned fitness. I knew that I would want to resume the journey at some point in time. Jumping back into a rigorous regiment without keeping the muscles strong would have resulted in injury. For many people a fitness routine is cut off before it even begins...
